Llandrindod Heritage Walk
(A short walk, 1 hour, to view the towns
most significant landmarks)

1. Memorial
Gardens
Outside the Town Information Office. Here you will find general
information about the Town, the Town Hall, Museum and the Metropole
Hotel. Now make your way across the main road (there is a pedestrian
crossing) into Temple Gardens.
2. Temple
Gardens
This display is on the pavement beyond the Band Stand. Details
of Temple Gardens, Lindens Walk, the Stone Circle that used to
stand here, the Glen Usk and Commodore Hotels. Now walk along
Middleton Street, the main shopping street of our town today.
3. Middleton
Street
You will find the display outside the Post Office across the road
from the end of Middleton Street. There are details here of our
oldest shops and some, such as the Central Wales Emporium and
the Oriental Bazaar, that have now been replaced by modern retail
premises.
4. The
Station
Outside the Railway Station you will find a board giving details
of The Heart of Wales Railway Line which arrived here in 1865
and continues to opterate to this day. The Old Signal Box is now
a Museum to the Age of Steam Railways.
5. The
High Street
Cross over the Railway foot-bridge ans turn Left past the Police
Station. You will find the display board half way along the pavement
near the Car Parking Area. Details here of the Old County Hall
(Now the Magistrates Court), the site of the Market and Assembly
Rooms and the Llanerch Inn.
6. The
Gwalia
The board is to the Left of the former Gwalia Hotel and at the
far end of the High Street and theEntrance to the Rock Park. Details
here of the former Gwalia Hotel, the Albert Hall and the Presbyterian
Church and the former Christ Church Congregational Chapel. Now
walk down the path to the Rock Park Centre and Restaurant.
7. Rock
Park Spa & Treatment Centre
This board faces the Spa Buildings and contains details of the
Waters of Llandrindod Spa and their history. You will now need
to retrace your steps through the Rock Park and chose another
path to take you back to the Town, up Spa Crescent and back to
Temple Gardens. Continue up the hill past the Gardens and turn
Left past Holy Trinity Church and walk down the path to the Left
of the Car Park opposite the Pavilion.
8. The
Pavilion and Holy Trinity
Details here of the Grand Pavilion and Holy Trinity Church and
Their History. From here you can also see the newer Indoor Bowling
Centre. Now either walk through the narrow path past the Dance
Centre or retrace your steps and walk down Spa Road, accross the
Main Road adain at Five Ways and follow the directions to the
Lake. You will find the next board just aroung the corner at the
Back of the Automobile Palace.
9. The
Autopalace
This now contains the National Bicycle Exhibition and Shops. There
are details here of its history and of the Ye Wells Hotel opposite
- Now Coleg Powys. Now walk up the hill to the lake.
10. The
Lake
This Display id just this side of the Lake Cafe as you approach
the Lake. Details here also of the Old Parish Church, Llandrindod
Hall and the Golf Course on the Hill beyond thr Lake.
11. The
Pump House Hotel
This Display is outside the present Powys County Council building
and gives details of the history of the former Pump House and
Hotel that once stood here.
